In support of the artists, thinkers, researchers, and tellers of our times, we share our wonderment in the wilderness.  We invite those seeking the wisdom, perspective, inspiration, freedom and clarity that wilderness immersion and adventure provide.

Welcome to THE WILD…to the wild of your mind…to the edge of your world…to places where we go alone and are drawn together by the great far-away…

At The Wild: Artist In Residence, we align our curatorial collaborations with a pursuit to honour wild ecologies, international communities, personal histories, & diverse cultures.

When you give yourself to places, they give you yourself back; the more one comes to know them, the more one seeds them with the invisible crop of memories and associations that will be waiting for you when you come back, while new places offer up new thoughts, new possibilities. Exploring the world is one the best ways of exploring the mind, and walking travels both terrains.

The Wild: Artist In residence

Thematically evolving programs and self-directed retreats in spectacularly beautiful wilderness locations in Canada and around the world provide unique opportunities for artists, travellers, and adventurers to turn inward, to turn outward, to be alone, to come together, to explore the alchemy of juxtaposed origins with the inherent energies of wilderness escape for research and creation, and to experience the catharsis of collaboration, exhibition, and community building across cultures and geographies.

Committed to artist support, we offer opportunities for collaborative exchanges, solo retreats, mentorship matchmaking, and didactic community building through the sharing of disparate disciplines, alternate histories, and personal place-making.

Wilderness residencies in painting, photography, film, architecture, sculpture, music composition, writing, dance, movement, performance, and land-based conceptual art provide artists, researchers, thinkers and creatives with the unique opportunity to explore, create, and be in the wild.

Art and ecology, in site-specific conceptual art and our relationship with the more-than-human world, are ever evolving conversations that I am honoured to lend my voice in the support of both established and emerging artists at this unique time in cultural and environmental history
— jocelyn CLAIRE BURKE, CURATOR AND founder of 'the wild: artist in residence'

At The Wild: Artist In Residence, we provide artists with space and support by sharing our remarkable land, inspiring accommodations, professional studios, vibrant community, resources and experience.

We collaborate with artists to create an inclusive, immersive, career propelling platform and archive from their residency in our wild places.

I think having land and not ruining it is the most beautiful art that anyone could ever want to own.
